‘Infadels’Image
‘Universe In Reverse’ (Album)
The London five-piece are back with a vengeance with their new follow up album ‘Universe in Reverse’. The album is packed full of uplifting guitar hooks and melodies. It’s bursting with energy and demonstrates some terrific musical arrangement that is accompanied by insightful lyrics and clear delivery.

Many of the songs have that sing-along-ability; expect festivals to be crammed with people singing their songs out loud this summer. Stand out singles from the album are the edgy ‘Play Blind’ and the albums lead single, ‘Free Things for Poor People’. But every song offers something on what on the face of it is a very consistent, enjoyable album.

But there is a big drawback. They simply don’t have that wow factor. Songs are good but there’s nothing that makes them stand out from the very big crowd of British indie bands. This presents a very frustrating effort since the musical capability is clearly there, but the Infadels lack that originality to make them real contenders as Indie heavyweights. Nevertheless, fans of Soft-Rock/Indie will no doubt embrace the Infadels with open arms. Imagine a more energetic version of Snow Patrol and you won’t be too far from the Infadel’ sound. This could just be the album that finally provides their commercial breakthrough…

FEAR OF MUSIC
‘First to Go’ (Single)
Released June 2nd
BRYN CHRISTOPHER
‘The Quest’ (single)
Released June 9th
Positives
  • Up-tempo track blended with some intense
guitar riffs and good arrangement make the
    song captivating
  • Rock fans will be excited by this explosive
debut single, but it isn’t too hard to deter
fans who prefer their music to be a little softer

Negatives
  • The sheer power of the guitar and
drum fuelled base on the track can
    sometimes drown out the vocals.
  • No real catchy chorus; hard to
distinguish Fear of Music from other
    rock bands around
Positives
  • The song is really soulful; boasting a performer
with great vocal range and it’s a catchy song to fit
  • It’s really easy to listen to, it’s gospel like in
sound giving it an old school vibe but similar to
Amy Winehouse, it manages to still sound
    contemporary in style

Negatives
  • It lacks that killer beat to make the song easy
to dance to. You will not be playing this song
to get you in the mood for a night out
  • Its deep lyrics make the track a little deeper
but also a little less uplifting at times

NICK HARRISON
‘Oi Rude Boy’ (Single)
Released June 23rd
Positives

  • It’s a really catchy song that has a real
summery feel to it. It really could be the
    soundtrack for summer 2008
  • It’s a really quirky, edgy song that has
a really unique sound. You won’t be
    forgetting it any time soon

Negatives

  • The song is unique and different sounding
so naturally there will be some that don’t
    particularly take to the sound
  • There is a real danger that this song could
    be overplayed…so be warned!
